WEST BROOKLYN - William "Bill" Bialas, 92, of West Brooklyn died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Rochelle Community Hospital. He was a lifetime farmer.

Mr. Bialas was born May 9, 1910, in Douglas County, S.D., the son of J. Herman and Martha (Wegehaubt) Bialas. He married Louise Kretchmer on May 11, 1932, in Douglas County, S.D. She died March 29, 1996. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert (Billie) Bialas of West Brooklyn, Lloyd (Linda) Bialas of Steward and Gene (Joyce) Bialas of Rochelle; a daughter, Darlene (Robert) Johnson of Steward; two stepsisters, Ruth (Earl) Schnuckel of Mendota and Olga (James) Howard of Aurora; two stepbrothers, Lorenz Metzger of Davis Junction and Nestor Metzger of Rochelle; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Martha Fisher and Bertha Bialas; two brothers, Fritz and Herman Bialas; a stepsister, Hanna Schaver; and three stepbrothers, Ewald Metzger, Walter Metzger and Reinhard Metzger.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle, with the Rev. Christopher T. Beamsley, pastor, officiating. Burial is at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, Rochelle, and from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A memorial has been established.
