Rev. Shivers was born October 1, 1921, in Randolph County, AL, son of the late Ealie Lorenza Shivers and Dochie Laney Shivers. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War Two, he was a graduate of LaGrange College and was a minister in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years, serving a number of Methodist churches in the west Georgia area. Before making his home in Rainbow City in 2013, he lived in Hogansville for 30 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, the Hogansville Lions Club, and the Hogansville Ministerial Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Saylors Shivers, and is survived by his sons and daughters in-law, Steve and Becky Shivers of Gadsden, AL, Richard and Susan Shivers of Buford, GA; grandchildren, Matthew Shivers of Gadsden, Heath Shivers, Greg and Ashley Shivers, all of Buford; great-grandson, Simon Shivers of Buford; sisters and brother in-law, Mildred Brown, Annie Ruth and Jimmy Clark, Kathleen Evans; and sister in-law, Trish Shivers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend John Evans and Dr. Gary Ashley will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030.
