Sister Ann Roberta Powers, SCN, died June 27, 2015, at Nazareth Convent, Mokama, Patna, India. Born in Cloverport in 1924, she entered the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1942. After teaching at two schools in the United States, Sister Ann Roberta became a missionary to India in 1947. She served 67 years in the cities of Mokama, Gaya, Ranchi and Chatra, all located in the state of Bihar, India. Sister Ann Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Everett & Eva Mae Powers and her siblings, Verrill S. (LaVerne) Powers, Eulaine Robertson Kenneth Powers, Joseph Raphael Powers, the Rev. Benjamin C. Powers, Louis R. Powers and Augusta Powers. She is survived by her sisters, Marian Powers, OSU and Rose Jean Powers, OSU; in-laws, Walter Robertson, Oneida Powers and Nora Jean Powers; and three generations of nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass was celebrated on June 28 at the convent chapel in Mokama with burial in the convent cemetery. A memorial service celebrating the life of Sister Ann Roberta was held on June 28 at St. Vincent Church at the Sisters of Charity Nazareth Motherhouse, Bardstown.
