From Thurston Genealogies, Second Edition, compiled by Brown Thurston, 1892, page 59:

Daniel Thurston was the son of Nathaniel Thurston (1718-1775) and Miner Chase (1721-1815) of Newbury, Mass. He was born there on August 24, 1752. He married April 1780 Hannah Hilton of Fitchburg, Mass. She died 1811 and he died May 1, 1850.

Mr. Thurston lived in Fitchburg till after the birth of his son Enoch, but probably very soon after that he moved to Windsor, Vermont where he remained till about 1787, when he removed to Scipio, Cayuga county, N.Y. Here his house and its contents, including his family records, were burned. In 1806 he purchased 700 acres of land of the Holland Co. in Aurora, N.Y., whither he migrated with two ox teams, erected a log house, and commenced life in what was then a dense forest, except about ten acres which had been cultivated by the indians. Here they experienced all the hardships of pioneer life.

Sometime after the death of his wife he took a horseback journey to Massachusetts to visit his mother, but she was not living. He was a deacon in the Baptist church in Scipio, but afterward changed his connection to the Universalist church in Aurora. He was a man of "good disposition and regular habits." He served in the revolutionary war and as a substitute for his son Thomas in the war of 1812, and was at the burning of Buffalo, N.Y. His large farm was divided between his sons, Enoch giving $400 for his choice. He as a staunch Whig in politics. He spent the last days of his life with his son Thomas, and with him moved to Leoni, Jackson county, Michigan, P.O. Grass Lake.

The children of Daniel and Hannah were:

(1) Enoch, born in Fitchburg, August 24, 1780 and married Jane Hambleton.
(2) Ruth, born July 25, 1783 and married Charles Olds, a farmer in Aurora, N.Y. She died April 30, 1864.
(3) Daniel, born November 7, 1784. Married Eliza Chilcott. Died Nov. 19, 1854 and buried in Mount Vernon, Michigan.
(4) Thomas, born February 25, 1786, married Electa Wilcox.
(5) Hannah, born September 6, 1787, married Samuel Hambleton, a farmer in Hamburg, Erie County, N.Y. She died August 4, 1864.
