He told me the story about going to "Granny Rach"'s 100th birthday. He said the whole town of Carbo walked up the hill to her log house.
The party was held in the front yard. He was just 5 or 6 years old, but he remembers that everybody called Rachel "Granny Rach". She was the oldest resident of Carbo and was loved and respected by the entire community who had come together to celebrate her birthday.
I've included a photo of her old log home, which is now sadly collapsing from age. (Note: As of today, the old log home has been razed and the usable logs were sold to be reused.)
At the time of her death, my uncle remembered that she lived alone in the log house and was self sufficient with the help of her relatives and neighbors. (However, census records show that she did not live alone so I'm not sure which is the case). Nobody has lived in the house since then. (I need to verify this as the 1930 census shows a son and daughter still living with her).
He remembers that she was able to get around well for her age and was considered a sweet old lady. She died a few months after that birthday celebration.
