Mahala Matthews was the daughter of Calvin Matthews and Sarah Thompson. She married 4 Oct 1866 in Darlington, Lafayette Co Wisconsin, a veteran of the Civil War, John D. Noble, born in Indiana June 1840. He enlisted Aug 15 1862 and served through Sept 20 1865. Mahala lived in Willow Springs, Lafayette Co WI and later in both Carroll County and Shelby Co Iowa before moving to California. She filed for widows pension June 28 1911 WI and later moved her pension payment fo California. Her husband John Noble served as a 1st Sergeant, E 30 Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.

Mahala was a witness to her sister Jane Matthews (Heath) Dean will on Aug 1895 in Jasper Co. Iowa. Her sister Jane died by Dec 1895 so must have known she was going to die and was ill.

In 1900 the couple lived in Blanchard town, Lafayette Co WI. where he listed his employment as 'boarding house keeper.'
In his WWI draft registration card Lester Scott Noble listed his mother as living at 4806 Sheridan Rd Chicago IL. He was 35 and working as an office clerk.
