Josiah Hemingway was born November 8,1808 in Canada to Moses Gage Hemingway(1784-1834) and Hannah Forgason (1787-1831) Josiah died August 1, 1865 in Springvale township in Fon du Lac County, Wisconsin.

Josiah's siblings: Anna(1805),Esther(1810), Elizabeth (1812), Hannah(1815), Moses(1817),Aaron(1819)Sarah(1822) & Elenor (1826)

Josiah married Elizabeth Lawrence in 1830 near Toronto, Canada. They lived in Canada, later moving to Watertown, Wisconsin in 1844 and moving to Rosendale,Wisconsin in 1849. 11 children were born to Josiah and Elizabeth Hemingway (including 2 who died in infancy):Mary Getman (1833),Joseph (1836),Calvin (1838),Caroline Sheldon (1840), Aaron(1843), Sarah Jane Stout(1847), Clinton(1852), George (1854) & Rilla Crittenden Lansing(1856)

Josiah's grandfather, Samuel Hemingway, "was reportedly of Scottish descent(MacHemingway), but resided in England prior to coming to America. Samuel probably died in New York state or Markham, Canada." Samuel had 2 sons: Josiah (1172-1851) and Moses Gage(1784-1834) who was Josiah's(1808-1865) father.
