Claudia Jane Leaming, 82, of Knoxville, IA, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
Claudia was born August 7, 1935, daughter of the late Wentworth D. and Lula P. (Oliver) McMains. She received her education at the Norman Wiles Seventh Day Adventist Academy.
On October 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to Charles Frederick Leaming in Des Moines. They made their home in Des Moines where she was employed as a cashier first with Katz Park Fair and later K-Mart for over 25 years where she was beloved by her K-Mart customers.
Claudia was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she enjoyed spending time socializing with friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and attending the Iowa State Fair. She also loved spending time on her front deck watching people. She enjoyed all types of animals and even enjoyed the winter months when she could shovel snow. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Claudia is survived by her husband Charles, her children; Deborah (Robert) Griffith of Ankeny, IA, Charles (Debbie) Leaming of Hiawatha, IA, Frederick Leaming of Des Moines and Patrick (Marcia) Leaming of Monroe, IA, 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the Grandview Park Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
