Avis M. Achorn, 81, of Spring Grove Road, Chepachet, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Bayberry Commons, in Burrillville surrounded by her family. She was the widow of George A. Achorn Sr, to whom she was married to for 52 years till his death in May, 2012.  Born in Rockport Maine, she was one of eight children of the late Ashley and Eva (Closson) Leach. Growing up in Camden, Maine, she was a graduate from Camden High School.Besides taking on babysitting jobs as a young girl, she worked at the Smiling Cow in town and at the local 5 and 10, before taking a job at Tibbetts Industries to start her life as a new bride. She worked at Tibbetts until she left to raise her family. George and Avis moved to Rhode Island in 1969 and settled in Chepachet. They lived there for over 40 years.Avis is survived by her three children: Kelcey Dutch of Chepachet, George Achorn, Jr. and his wife, Tammie of Danielson, Connecticut and Stacey Trombley and her husband, Dave of Riverside, her three grandsons: Alex Dutch, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Cumberland, George Achorn, III of Danielson, Connecticut, Corey Trombley of Riverside, great grandson, Travis of Cumberland and her siblings: Carol Gilbert and Bruce Leach both of Maine. She was the sister of the late Claribel Thomas, Jeannette Anderson, Betty Beverage and Melvin and Edwin Leach.
