Major League Baseball Player. For twelve seasons (1954 to 1965), he played at the outfielder and first baseman positions with the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers. Born Wallace Wade Moon, he attended Bay High School in Arkansas. He played baseball collegially at Texas A&M University and earned All-Southwest Conference status, in addition to playing basketball. Moon received a Masters Degree in Education. Signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent in 1950, he made his Major League debut on April 13, 1954. His impact on the league was immediate, as he received National League Rookie of the Year honors (1954) and produced a career-high 193 hits. After he was acquired by the Dodgers, he led the league with eleven triples in 1959 and experienced a world championship with Los Angeles. He recorded six hits which include a home run during the 1959 World Series. He would go on to contributed to two more Dodgers' world championships (1963 and 1965). Individually, Moon achieved all star status in 1957 and 1959, and in 1960 he received a Gold Glove for his defense. In 1961, he led the league with a .434 On-Base-Percentage. In 1,457 career regular season games, he compiled 1,399 hits, with a .289 lifetime batting average. After retiring as a player, he served as the athletic director and baseball coach at John Brown University. He later served as a Minor League hitting instructor with the St. Louis Cardinals' and New York Yankees' organizations.
