Born Germany, May 8, 1821, lived there until 1837, when he emigrated to the United States and landed in New York and from there went to Pennsylvania where he remained until 1845 when he came to Keokuk Co., Iowa and settled in German Twp,, where he has since lived. He owns a farm of 143 acres. He married Miss Louisa F. Geiss, May 4, 1845. She was born in Germany on Dec. 16, 1830 and came to the U. S. in 1837. She died Jan. 17, 1877. Their family consists of 10 children, Isabel M., Catherine, Christena, Louisa, Emma, Pauline, Otila, John D. Clara W. and Georgia B. Lost 3 children Andrew B., Alvina and Mary.
