Mr. R.L. McGill, one of the best known planters of the Center Community, died last Wednesday morning. He had been in poor health and had been under treatment for high blood pressure for sometime, but his death came as a shock to the family and the community.

On Wednesday morning about 5:00 Mr. McGill started to get up, but fell back on the bed calling for help. His wife found him and found him struggling and saying that he could not live. He died before a doctor could reach him.

Mr. McGill was 44 years old and a native of this county, his father and mother having come here from South Carolina. He has been a member of the Methodist Church for many years and at the time of his death was a steward of the church. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Center School. He was a man of much civic pride and has had been active part in the progressive movements in the community, especially the building of Center Consolidated School and the Wainwright Memorial Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Blocker McGill; and four children, James, Willard, Shellie Mae and Julia. Besides his mother, Mrs. Luraney McGill; four sisters, Mrs. D.L. Galbreath, Mrs. V.M. McKay, Miss Arminda McGill of Center and Mrs. George Galbreath of Sharpe Spur; and three brothers, Ezra of Center, Angus of Palatka, Fla., and Jiles of Sumrall, Miss., survive him.

The high esteem in which he was held was evidenced by the large course of relatives and friends attending the funeral and by the beautiful floral offerings. Those coming from a distance were Mrs. Manning Milligan, Ludowici, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Thomas, Savannah, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey and son from Alma, Ga.

The pallbearers were Edgar Galbreath, Robert Galbreath, Felix Galbreath, Walter Wilkes, Emmett McGill and Willie McDilda. Interment was at Center Cemetery.
