BUCKHALTER, CAROL FERRY, 83
Carol Ferry Buckhalter, 83, of Hawthorne, Florida passed away at her home on February 6, 2018 after her brave battle with cancer. Carol was born December 19, 1934 in Wheaton, Illinois, to Ira and Velma Ferry. In 1963, Carol married James Linton Buckhalter. They settled down in Gainesville and eventually Hawthorne, where she retired as a bookkeeper for Alachua General Hospital. She was a member of the Hope Fellowship Church of Campville. She loved being surrounded by her family, going to the beach, fishing and on game days, you knew not to interfere with her watching her favorite Florida Gators Football. Carol loved life in the country, except for perhaps the charging chicken or bull, but even she laughed with her family about the occasional mishaps afterwards, albeit much later afterwards. When her children were growing up, she could be found making homemade strawberry jam, leading the local Girl Scout troop, hosting Sunday softball games in their pastures after church, or making the traditional homemade pizza right before the family settled down to watch Lassie. Most of all, she was known for her gentle nature, soft spoken words, endless encouragement, unwavering love for her family and as the grandchildren often said, the most amazingly soft hands. She will be greatly missed, but her family takes solace in the certainty that she is rejoicing in Heaven with family and that we shall see her again.

She is preceeded in death by her, parents, Ira and Velma Ferry, brother Walter Ferry, sisters Alta Coleman, Lillian Johnson, Doris Witmer and Iola Webber. She is survived by her husband, James Linton Buckhalter, Sr.; three children Donald (Elaine) Peebles, James (Sarah) Buckhalter, Jr., and Judy (Gregory) Padgett; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 11 from 2-4pm and Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12 at 10:00am with Pastor Rick Ergle. Visitation and services will be at Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainesville. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, FL.
