"Eldridge Potter died in Clinton County, Missouri 26 February 1870, in the 79th year of his age. He died of the wear and tear of a long life. He was born in East Tennessee, Greene County., I think about the year 1813. He came to Missouri in 1819. In 1822, at Baxter's camp ground, in Clay County, he joined the MEC. Father Potter was devoted to the worship of God, having camped on six different camp grounds and circuit preaching in his house much of the time for nearly fifty years, first in Clay County, and then in Clinton County."
