Vera Marie Allen Burnum of Ruston, formerly of Jonesboro, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Ruston following a lengthy period of declining health.

Friends may visit with the family 10:00 AM ~ 11:00 AM Monday, February 5, 2018 at Edmonds Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Stuart Toms officiating. Interment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery near Jonesboro under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Vera is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, J. T. Burnum; parents, James Thomas Allen and Gillie Allen; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; 2 grandsons-in-law, Leveritte McFearin and Rick Jones.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Dianne Farmer and husband Butch of Choudrant, LA and Lazette Cox and husband Jack of Bella Vista, AR.;

Four grandchildren, Jody McFearin of Quitman, Tammy Jones of West Monroe, Randy Terrill of Valdosta, GA, Chad Murray and wife Annie of Missouri City, TX.;

Seven great grandchildren, Jake Murray and Aidan Murray of Missouri, TX., Dr. Matt Cooper of Durham, NC, Brandon Cooper and wife Jeani of Calhoun, LA, Ashley Guillory and husband Caleb of Woodlands, TX, Erica Powell and husband Matt of Farmerville, LA, Allison Dobbins of Ruston, LA;

Eleven great great grandchildren;

Brother, J.T. Allen of Jonesboro and a number of nieces and nephews.

Vera was an active member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church for most of her adult life. She loved her ladies Sunday school Class named “The Gleaners”. These ladies were faithful in providing food for the sick, shut-ins and for families following funerals.

Vera’s hobbies were cooking, ceramics and Rook parties. One of her greatest loves was her flower garden where she and her husband worked endlessly and found joy in sharing their Lilies and Painted Daisies with all who asked.

The family would like to especially thank granddaughters Jody and Tammy for their continued devotion and help over many years with both Mom and Dad and to grandson Brandon who was always there when Mom needed him. A special thanks to great neighbors Dorothy and John Wingert, the late Arvel Ray Walsworth, the Deacons of Jonesboro First Baptist Church, the Gleaners and all of the church members who made it possible for Mom to stay in her home as long as she did.
