Mr. Barton was in Wisconsin visiting relatives.
He was employed by Keystone 19 years, retiring in 1954. He then worked in the tax assessment office of Richwoods Township five years.
A resident of the Peoria area all of his life, he was born in Bartonville, Oct. 17, 1907, a son of William W. and Mary Hill Barton. Mr. Barton's grandfather was the founder of Bartonville.
He and his sisters donated land to the Greater Peoria Sanitary District in 1963 for its $20 million sewer program.
He was married to Eleanor Foisey Plover in Peoria June 7, 1958. She survives.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Joseph (Marilyn) Scott of Brookfield; and one sister, Mrs. Clarence (Rilla) Spindler of Pebble Beach, Calif.
Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Services will be at Wilton Mortuary and at St. Philomena's Church, Msgr. John M. Whelan officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
