Ruth was born in Breckenridge, Texas to her loving parents, Archie Lee and Georgia Ida Cockerell on November 4, 1934. She lived to be 83 years old.
She passed away on January 30, 2018 in Grand Prairie, Texas after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 3PM in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-3 PM.
Ruth graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1953.
She married John A. Heath on May 7, 1954, a marriage of 32 years. They had 3 children, Johnnie Karen (Toody), Carolyn Sue (Pudd), and Robert Wayne.
She enjoyed being with her family, loved country and western music, and bowling.
She was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell in Breckenridge, worked for Employer’s Insurance Company in Abilene, and was a contracting officer in the ROICC office (construction) for the Department of the Navy at NAS Dallas and NAS JRB Carswell in Fort Worth. The length of her federal service spanned 29 years. After retiring, she worked several more years as a switchboard operator for the Grand Prairie Police Department.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Georgia Cockerell of Breckenridge. Brother, Jerry Lee Cockerell, Sr. of Midland, and Robert Wayne Heath, infant son.
She is survived by her daughter, Johnnie Karen Heath-Jones of Grand Prairie, and her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Keen of Grand Prairie.
Four Grandchildren: Michael and Samantha of Grand Prairie, Dustin and Joanie of Fort Worth, Ryan and Lindsay of Fort Worth, and Carolyn Michelle of Grand Prairie.
Seven Great-Grandchildren: Alana and Wyatt King, Christian and Devin Keen, Alexis, Arianna, and Lukas Keen.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janette Cockerell, nephews, Wayne and Jerry Jr., nieces, Janet Kay and Sandy, of Midland, and many other great nieces and nephews.
