Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Beverly Ashy Ackal; his children, Eddie Ackal, Jr. and wife, Angie, Beth Ledet and husband, Gene, Bill Ackal and wife, Angie, Stephanie Ziegelasch and husband, Robert, and Todd Ackal and wife, Tracy; nine grandchildren, Ashley Cheramie and husband, Paul, Trace Ledet and wife, Krysten, Tiffany Rhodin and husband, David, Leila Bellow and husband, Eliot, Tyler Ledet, Graham Ackal, Ross Ziegelasch, Allison Ziegelasch, and Anna-Claire Ackal; five great-grandchildren, Rhys, Will, Eli, Ty, and Ben; his siblings, Madelyn Boustany Hillard, Ronnie Ackal, Darryl Elias, and Eldon Elias; and many nieces and nephews.
Eddie was preceded in death by parents, Stella Ackal Elias and William Ackal.
Eddie Ackal, Sr. was a graduate of SLI and a 1961 graduate of Loyola University School of Pharmacy. Among his many accomplishments, he was President of the American Student Pharmaceutical Association, a member of the Blue Key National Honorary Fraternity, and recipient of the Rexall and McKesson Awards. Eddie served as a member of the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Optimist Club, and served on the Lafayette Parish School Board for 9 years. He enjoyed a lifetime in the real estate development and construction industry. Most important to Eddie, was his love and devotion to family and friends. His happiest times were spent surrounded by family, often at his lake house on Toledo Bend.
