Helen Louise Ashley, 83, of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at her home.

She was born on February 12, 1932 in Farmington, IA, the daughter of Russell and Alice Shuler Howell. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1950.

On October 8, 1950, Helen was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” E. Ashley in Keokuk. He survives.

She is also survived by one daughter, Joan Diane Ashley of Keokuk, one son, Robert Steven (Angel) Ashley of Hamilton, IL, four grandchildren, Bethanie (Phil) Berg of O’Fallon, MO, Leslie Noelle Ashley of Edwardsville, IL, Olivia Louise Ashley and Brier Steven Ashley both of Hamilton, IL, one great-granddaughter, Madlyn Ashley of Edwardsville, IL, two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Howell of Keokuk and Delbert Howell of Sun River, OR, two sisters, Edith Woolridge of Burlington, IA and Martha (Bill) Weirather of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Richard Ashley, one daughter, Debra Ashley, six brothers, twin brothers at birth, Ray and Roy Howell, Kenny, Charlie, Donald and Lee Howell and one sister, Lola Nye.

Helen had been employed at Big G Foods in Keokuk for thirty years, retiring in 1985.

She enjoyed fishing, camping and working jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid gamer and was always trying to beat the slot machine. Helen and Richard always enjoyed taking a trip to Las Vegas and was an avid Bingo player. A loving wife and devoted mother, Helen’s greatest joy was to care for her family. Her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life and she loved spending time with them.

Helen donated her body to the University Of Iowa.
