Roger Anthony Lewis, a resident of Chunchula AL, passed away at Springhill Hospital January 19, 2018 at the age of 97.

He is survived by his children Charles Thomas Lewis, Nelda Corinne Nicks (Jim), and Martin Douglas Lewis (April); His grandchildren Anthony Lewis (Lynda), Adam Lewis (Heather), and Dylan Lewis; his great-grandchildren Tristen Trout, Hannah Lewis, Miley Lewis, Charles Peyton Lewis, George Lewis, Emma Lewis, Payton Lewis, and Jason Lewis; his siblings Jerral Lewis and Wendal Lewis; his friend Faye Roberts; his pet Cocoa.

He is preceded in death by his wife Corinne Lewis; his children Roger Anthony Lewis and Kim Lewis; his parents Ephriam and Malissia Lewis; his grandparents Anthony B. Lewis and Nancy O’Cain; his siblings Pelham Lewis, Esta Lee Carmichael, Beulah Hensley, Harry Leon Lewis, Joyce Kelly, and Theo Lewis; his friends Hannis Deas, Norman Tew, Pete Yarborough, Bro. Marion Byrd, L.J. Brewer, Helen Brewer, and Raymond Roberts; his pets Bama and Red.

Roger received the Purple Heart for his service and was a World War II veteran in the Pacific for the Marines. He was a deacon at Turnerville Baptist for many, many years and received honorary accolades for his commitment to the church. He was a longtime associate and served on the board of directors for Widowed Persons Services. He worked at Brookley Air Force Base and was a Postmaster in Chunchula, until he retired. He was a cattleman who enjoyed tending to his pet cows.

A visitation will be held at 6pm Monday January 22, 2018 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 9700 Celeste Rd Saraland AL 36571. Services will be held at Turnerville Baptist Church at 11am Tuesday January 23, 2018 followed by interment at Turnerville Cemetery.
