On Thursday, January 18, 2018, Rev. James Calvin Wilson, age 87, graduated from this life and went home to be with his Heavenly Father.

He was a son of the late Sam and Florence Robinson Wilson, born in Yancey County on June 12, 1930.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Lonnie Wilson and Ray Wilson.

Ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1958, “J.C.” faithfully pastored churches in Yancey, Buncombe and McDowell Counties. He loved his Lord the most, and his family dearly. A master of many trades, woodworking was one of his favorite pastimes.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Buchanan Wilson; two sons, Sherrill Wilson (Vickie) and Greg Wilson (Jennie); two daughters, Crystal Marlowe (David) and Vanessa Woody (Mike); ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Wilson, Joe Wilson, and Roy Wilson; and two sisters, Ona Good and Lila Melvin.

A time of celebration will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Cherry Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Marty Conner, Rev. Allen McKinney, and Rev. Norris Wright will preside over the service. The family will be available to receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
