Alma Snowden of McCook, 97, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home with her niece Carol Collicott at her side.
Alma wanted no fan-fare, she wished to be cremated and inurned with Harry at Ft McPherson, Maxwell, at a later date. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Nov. 3, 1920 to John and Christena (Rathsach) Jurgensen on the family farm near Overton. She and her twin, Alice rounded the family out to three girls and two boys. She was a 1939 graduate of Overton High School.
She married the love of her life Harry Snowden, Sept. 13, 1942 in Lexington. They shared 65 years together until his death May 21, 2008 when the world just wasn’t as bright for her.
Alma and Harry spent their working years trucking livestock coast to coast with her handling the 18 wheeler as Harry’s relief driver. She could back up to the dock as good as any guy. They were not blessed with children but enjoyed their nieces and nephews. They resided their working years in Lexington and retirement years in Kearney. They enjoyed traveling near and far and making friends along the way.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, sister Helen Adams and husband Herman, brothers Harley Jurgensen and wife Opal, Dick Jurgensen and wife Bonita, twin, Alice Ruppert and husband Earle Collicott and Glenn W Ruppert. Harry’s siblings and their spouses all preceded her as well.
She is survived by cousins, many loving nieces and nephews and their families, and special friend Melissa Slater Yendra of Kearney, and many great friends.
