Mr. Courter died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1993, at the veterans' hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born May 5, 1928, at Elmira, Mo., the son of James I. and Mildred Ann Barnett Courter.
He lived in Jefferson County most of his life and in Oskaloosa since 1984.
Mr. Courter was a heavy equipment operator for the division of vehicles for the Kansas State Highway Department for 20 years. He retired in May 1993. He previously worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near DeSoto for 23 years, until 1973. Mr. Courter also was a long-time auctioneer and farmer in Jefferson County.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1948 to 1950.
He was a lifetime member of Larner-Segraves American Legion Post No. 36 of Oskaloosa and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans' Jayhawk Chapter No. 22.
He married Donna L. May on Oct. 1, 1950, at Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Neila Louise Bauer, Oskaloosa, and Donna Sue Rush, Hebbronville, Tex.; four sons, Clinton Lee, Harold Lynn, Charles Ray, and Daniel Joseph, all of Oskaloosa; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nina Faye Courter, and a son, Jesse D Courter.
