William B. Hickey, Jr., age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2015 at Bethany Gardens.

William was born on May 19, 1925 to the late William Sr. and Adella Brown Hickey. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1943. After graduation, he proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. There, he was part of the 77th infantry and the 3520 Automotive Maintenance Division. He was stationed in the Ryukya Islands and was in the Ie Shima and Okinawa Campaigns. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a machinist at Revere Copper in Rome until his retirement in 1985. On May 13, 1944, he was united in marriage to the former Frieda Bowers.

William was a life time member of the Rome VFW and Henry P. Smith Post #24. He was also a 50 year member of the Rome Outboard Motorboat Club.

William is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Frieda; a daughter and son in law, Mary and Robert Yauger of Rome; a son and daughter in law, George and Bonnie Hickey of Rome; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kelly and Christopher Lee and Elizabeth and Joe Nasci; three great, grandchildren, Colton, Bryan and Adella; a sister, Dorothy Utnik of Rome; and a brother, George Hickey of CA.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Gardens for their wonderful care extended to William during his stay.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 7 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm, prior to the servic
