Laurel “Larry” Anthon Johnson, 85, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was born on July 3, 1932 in Ogden, UT, the son of Gustave and Dagmar Andreason Johnson. He was raised in Ogden and for a time in Rupert, ID. After high school, Larry enlisted in the US Army at the close of WWII and was part of the occupation of Japan and also served in Guam.
Upon returning home he lived in Huntsville for a time, but was back in Ogden in time to meet Dolores Hidalgo, the love of his life in 1954. They were married in August of 1955 and lived in Ogden for a few years before settling in North Ogden in 1962.
They raised a wonderful family of three children.
For most of his life, Larry worked hard providing for his family as a truck driver for Swift and Co. for 17 years, 10 for Precision Built Homes, and another 10 years for Cream O’ Weber before retiring in 1991. He also loved his pasture, but was most happy as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
Larry loved bowling, fishing, riding horses, and teasing and joking with those he loved best. He had a tremendous dry-witted sense of humor. He will be remembered for his big smile, and his love for horses.
Larry is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Laurie (Keith) Rasmussen, Rupert, ID; Ryan (Jill) Johnson, Pleasant View; and DeEtte “Dee” (Brent) Randall, Kimberly, ID; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Louise (Neil) Schmidt, Richland, WA; Jean Isaak, Burley, ID; and Bennie (Robert) Asson, Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, “Rex” Alexia Werth Johnson; son, Philip L Johnson; and siblings, Vern, Edward, Carolyn, and Patricia.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
