Melba was born in Hico, LA on January 30, 1925 and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Alpine Nursing Home in Ruston, LA with her children by her side.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, George E. Whitman; parents, Ray and Audria Oxford; sister, Mary Alice Martin; and brother, Newton (Tank) Oxford.
Mrs. Whitman is survived by her daughter, Brenda and husband, Jimmy Robinson, of Ruston, LA and son, George Randall Whitman and wife, Elaine, of El Dorado, AR; grandchildren: Laurie Robinson Jones and husband James of Simsboro, LA, Amanda Robinson Foster and husband John of Haughton, LA, Brittani Whitman Garrett and husband Jon of Mayflower, AR; Phillip King and wife Andrea of Fayetteville, AR; and Jamie King of Chicago, IL; six great grandchildren: Ally Foster, John Landon Foster, Adalynn King, River King, Sadie Garrett and Paisley Garrett and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whitman was beloved by all who knew her. Her smile was contagious and she loved her family deeply. She was an active member of Hodge Baptist Church prior to moving to Ruston and later became a member of Temple Baptist.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Jones, John Foster, Jon Garrett, Marty Lewis, Phillip King, and Ken Martin.
