Born November 20, 1934 in Hubbard to Jim and Clara (Vardeman) Anderson, Bennie was the youngest of eight children. She lived her entire life in Hubbard. During that time, she worked for General Telephone, Haggar Slacks, The Mexia State School and Hubbard ISD.
Bennie loved the Lord and served Him well. A lifelong, devout member of First United Methodist Church of Hubbard, she had a true passion for taking care of others. Bennie touched the lives of so many people through her discipleship, cooking and baking skills and through her selfless giving of all that she had to those that were in need. Bennie lived her life as a shining example of God’s love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O.B. “Sonny” Hughes, Jr.; son, Tommy Hughes and seven siblings, Rosezine Anderson Hammer, Wilburn Anderson, Odis Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Mary Etta “Neek” Anderson Adair, Glen Anderson and James Anderson.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Patterson and husband, Les; daughter, Janet Vaughan; grandsons, Michael Patterson and wife, Valerie, Blake Patterson, Bryan Vaughan and Matthew Vaughan; numerous nieces and nephews; her best friend and niece, Joyce Peacock and many friends.
Pallbearers will be her four grandsons, great-nephew, David Hammer and friend, Wayne Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 208 NW 2nd Street, Hubbard, Texas 76648 or Fairview Cemetery, P.O. Box 427, Hubbard, Texas 76648.
