December 1, 2017 I traveled to the library in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. While there I was able to obtain a microfilm copy of the obituary for my great-grandmother's death. The librarian told me the name of the paper was either "The Pine Bluff Commercial" or "The Pine Bluff Graphic" I wrote the name of one on the obit and then began to doubt myself so I'm not sure which it was. Obituary for Lula Beard
MRS. LULA BEARD
Mrs. Lula Beard, 50 years old died at her home, 596 Sp???? street this morning at 11:43 o'clock after an extended illness. She had been a resident of Pine Bluff for the past two years having moved here from Cleveland county where she was a member of the Pleasant Home Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband B. A. Beard; two sons, Alex and Jimmie, one daughter, Miss Myra Beard; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Billings of Memphis, and Mrs. Stella Junet of ????Wells; four brothers, Thomas, Floyd, Ed and Hart Gathright and her father J. T. Gathright of H????, Ark. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Ralph Robinson and Son.

From the 1880 U.S. Federal Census in Lapile, Union county, Arkansas.

Jno Gathright, W, M, 24, Self, Farmer

Mary Gathright, W, F, 23, Wife, Keeping House

Lula Gathright, W, F, 6, Daughter

Eddie Gathright, W, M, 4, Son

Hartwell Gathrught, W, M, 2, Son

I haven't been able to find a lot on Lula but this gives enough evidence to prove her to be a daughter of John Thomas and Mary Gathright, as well as proof of her husband, Benjamin Alexander Beard.

Also while in Pine Bluff I went by the cemetery where her husband, Benjamin is buried(in an unmarked grave) and spoke with a very nice lady there in the office. She explained to me that in the 1960's many of the records were mysteriously misplaced and that it is likely that Lula is buried there with Benjamin. For that reason I feel comfortable with creating this memorial for her in this cemetery.
