Was a Catholic living in Maiden Creek Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania where he was associated with the Goshenhoppen Catholic Mission/St Paul's Chapel (now, Most Blessed Sacrament in Bally). Moved to Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania between 1797 & 1809 where he died in 1809 (or before the census in 1810). He may have attended a Lutheran Church, being one or both of the executors of his will were Lutheran.

Earliest record of him is that he married Catharine Baur in Goshenhoppen (now Bally), Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1773 at the Goshenhoppen Catholic Mission/St Paul's Chapel. He & Catharine had their children baptized there, at their house & at the houses of a couple of neighbors. The children they had were John, Henry James, Jacob, Elizabeth, George, Valentine, Louis Henry, Mary, Catharine, William, Peter & Christian.

He had at least three known siblings: Margaret, Louis Henry & Christopher. John may have been the youngest, born about 1748-1751. All three of his siblings are in the Goshenhoppen Register & are the only Flowers' in it, other than John, revealing a relationship/siblings.

Possible parents for them are Johann Jacob Flower & Maria Appolonia Closter, who were from Bavaria, Germany. The last name may have originally been Blum, German for "flower". The various spellings for Flower in the Goshenhoppen Registers & elsewhere for this family may have been an attempt to Anglicize the name from Blum.
