Violet Mae Karr, 86, of Mitchell, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at her residence.
She was born April 21, 1920, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Leslie and Lucy Phillips Cooper. She was a graduate of Mitchell High School, was a homemaker and owned and operated Karr's Laundromat in Mitchell. She was a member of the Mitchell First Christian Church and a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Karr of Mitchell and Bob Karr, both of Mitchell; one daughter, Connie Williams of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren, several of whom live in Madison; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Karr, whom she married June 13, 1941; her parents; one son, Danny Joe Karr; one brother, Winfred Cooper; and two sisters, Katheryn Hedrick and Lucy Lynch.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mitchell First Christian Church. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ferguson-Lee Haverly Chapel in Mitchell and at the church from 9 a.m. Monday until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hoosier Uplands Hospice in Mitchell.
