Ferd Bookhout, born December 20, 1917 in Camden County, Missouri, was the son of Frank L. Bookhout and Mary Agness (Mollie) Sullivan. He married Virginia Ruth Bradley in 1940 and had six children -- Julia, Joe Don, Paul Glen, Janice Ruth, and Rose Marie and Linda Sue, the last two of whom died very young.

Ferd was a very tall, slender man adored by his wife and children and respected and well-liked by everyone. He was a crack shot and an excellent hunter, but his final hunting trip alone proved to be his last. On November 22, 1975 Ferd died of a heart attack while dragging a deer he had killed back to his vehicle. He was buried in High Point Cemetery.
