After earning her LLB and JD degrees from Indiana University Janet was admitted to the Indiana Bar Association in December of 1957. She practiced law with her husband until 1967 when she started working for the Court of Appeals. In 1970 she was appointed Commissioner of Court of Appeals of Indiana. She was active in Indianapolis Symphonic Choir for 13 years; active in Meridian Street UMC choir; member Indianapolis Matinee Musicale; member Meridian Street UMC; Indiana University Alumni Association; Indiana State Bar Association; Indianapolis Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Janet loved reading and music. She was bestowed the honor of Sagamore of the Wabash in 1992. She was included in the Who's Who in American Law and enjoyed a long and distinguished career. She was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Wilkerson Werking.
