Alden D Avery, 85 died Thursday March 10th in Green Valley California. There will be no Funeral Service. Alden D Avery was the son of A. H. & Grace D Avery. He was born October 31st 1908 in Spencer, IA. It was there he received his early education. He later attended the University of Iowa and received his law degree. Mr. Avery practice law in Spencer from 1933 to 1984. On October 10th 1936, he married Catherine Byers. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Spencer and Wahpeton. Mr. Avery was a Clay County Attorney from 1939 to 1949, a member of the board of directors of the Spencer School District from 1949 to 1963, a trustee of the Iowa Great lake Sanitary District from 1957 to 1978 and a former member of the Wahpeton Board of Adjustment. A former president of the Okoboji Protective Association and member the Clay County, Iowa State and American Bar Association. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Spencer Masonic Order and Abu Bekr Shrine. He survived by his wife one daughter, Susan Lewis, 2 sons; Stephen and Ganson, six grandchildren and one sister Barbara Avery.
