Mary Macey (the spelling on the record of marriage to Benjamin Whitear), according to the "lore" the Whitear family has passed down online, was the daughter of a sailor from England, John Macey. Other researchers have her father as Peter. Also, that she was born in Lancashire, England.
As a young girl in Nova Scotia, her mother remarried. Richard Atwood was the stepfather. As Mr. Atwood evidently was very fond of his step-daughter, he left land to she and her new spouse.
Mary and Benjamin raised ten more children along with the six by Sarah, Benjamin's first wife.
