Reportedly a son of Robert Ridgway and wife, Eleanor Clyton Ridgway, of England although no written documentation has presented itself.

Arrived in America from Berkshire, England on 21 Sep 1679 in Delaware on board the "Mary & Jacob" with his wife, Elizabeth Chamberlayne Ridgway, and their son, Thomas, age 2.

They had a total of 7 children before Elizabeth's death on 31 Mar 1692:

Moved to Bucks County, PA, where several of their children were born. Elizabeth Chamberlayne Ridgway died at Crewcome, Bucks County PA on 31 Mar 1692.

By 1718, Richard and his children had settled in Burlington County, New Jersey.

His occupation was shown as a tailor.

Second wife was Abigail Stockton, daughter of Richard Stockton and wife, Abigail Bloomfield Stockton of Burlington County NJ.

They were married by a Justice of the Peace about 1715 instead of being married by their Quaker minister so they were banned from the Burlington Friends Meeting for a period of time but were allowed back into the congregation before their deaths.

They had a total of 7 children before Richard Sr's death in 1723:

12 Feb 1719, he and his son, Thomas, were assigned as co-executors of the estate of his son, Richard Jr.

He wrote and signed his own Will on 21 Sep 1722. Listed are his wife, Abigail, and children: Thomas, Josiah, Elizabeth Willits, Job, Mary Ballenger, Jane the "now wife" of Isaac Antram,Sarah, John, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Mary, and son-in-law, Henry Clothier. Assigned his wife as sole executrix with sons, Thomas & Job, and son-in-law, Henry Clothier, as her assistants.

His Will was probated 5 Apr 1723 in Burlington County, NJ.
