Richard William Rigby was born 5/11/1875 in England, the son of John M Rigby and Nancy (Flitcroft) Rigby. On June 3, 1886 at the age of 9, Richard arrived in Boston, MA on the ship S.S. Galia, along with his brother Christopher (age 11) and father John Rigby. A few months later in October, Richard's mother and sister arrived in Boston on the ship Iowa. The family settled in New Bedford, MA where Richard lived the rest of his life. Richard worked in the mills as a mule spinner.

Richard W Rigby married Mary Palme on 6/15/1899. They had two children, Louise Rigby (Clark)born 8/26/1899 and Frederick Rigby born around 1902.

Richard Rigby died on Jan 7, 1963 and is interred in Acushnet Cemetery.
