Born Leon Bourke, he became known as Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke, "the Cajun Gentleman Fiddler". He played fiddle for Ray Price, Johnny Bush, and Little Jimmy Dickens, before later releasing his first album, Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke & the Outlaws (20th Century Fox) in 1974. "Big Mamou," a Cajun waltz, gave him his most commercial success, reaching the top spot on the country chart. Known for his ability to play the fiddle in any conceivable position, including behind his back, and across a bow held by another.
