"Dudley Montgomery, 82, Dies Here on Tuesday
Dudley Montgomery, 82, of 2355 University Ave., former president of the Madison Bus Co., died in a Madison hospital Tuesday.

Mr. Montgomery began his service with the old Madison Railways Co. in 1906, several years after it had been purchased by his father, the late F. W. Montgomery.

Mr. Montgomery saw the bus service change through the periods of the horse-drawn cards, the electric-powered cards, and on into the present motor-powered buses.

Mr. Montgomery resigned his presidency in 1962 after 56 years of service with the company. W. H. Straub, 4030 Cherokee Dr., succeeded him as president.

The Madison Veterans Council presented a plaque to Mr. Montgomery in 1955 in recognition of his services in Memorial Day and Veterans' Day activities. He provided the cenotaph for those observances for more than 25 years.

Mr. Montgomery was born in 1883 at Milwaukee. Later the family move dto [sic] New York City for a number of years before coming to Madison. He was a 1906 graduate of Cornell University.

He served as a lieutenant in World War I.

Mr. Montgomery was a charter member of the Madison Club.

His wife, the former Josephine Proudfit, to whom he was married in 1911, was a daughter of a prominent early Madison banking family, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ellis Proudfit. She died in 1955.

Surviving Mr. Montgomery are a son, Andrew P. Montgomery, Atherton, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. John E. Dyer, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mrs. John C. Lobb, New York City; a sister, Miss Alice N. Montgomery, a resident at Attic Angel Nursing Home here; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery here, with the Rev. Paul Z. Hoornstra of Grace Episcopal Church officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Bryan, Thomas R. Hefty, Frank Holmes, Arnold Petersen, Henry Reynolds, Ray Sennett, John Stephan, William H. Straub and Robert Sutherland.

The family said memorials may be made to the Attic Angel Nursing Home here.

The Fitch - Lawrence Funeral home, 625 University Ave., in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation."
