John had one sister: Elizabeth (1748-1830). She married Peter Leversage of Stroud, England.
John and Elizabeth* had ten children: Sarah Ann (Merritt) (1773-1860), Francis*, Jacob Cheeseman (1776-1849), Thomas (1778-1779), Harriet (1780-1781), Elizabeth (Clapp) (1782-1855), Augustus Churchill (1785-1787), John Augustus (1787-1851), Marie (Field) (1789-1846), Edward Paul (1792-1826).

PS: Though John and Elizabeth were married in the Episcopal Church Elizabeth's family were Quakers. After a time John converted. Buried in the Old Quaker Cemetery in Armouk, NY no family member knew where he was. Robert Arthur a cousin and family geneologist looked for many years with no success. Another cousin Christopher Arthur scooped him by finding the cemetery. After not being able to find John's grave he asked the sextant. He told Chris John's body was exhumed and placed in a common grave to make way for newer burials. In true Quaker thrift they even shaved the lettering off the tombstone to use it again
