On April, 13, 1946, he married, Leila Virginia Lam Dovel, who passed away, September 4, 2012.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by, a grandson, Donnie Dovel, Jr.
He was a member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church and took care for his wife for many years. His love was cracking black walnuts and growing vegetables, which he shared throughout the community. Many days granddaddy and grandma could be found at Lake Shenandoah or Massanutten fishing. He loved his grandkids and was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather that anyone could ever hope for. He worked for VDOT for a number of years and owned and operated a dairy farm in McGaheysville and Mt Crawford for many years before retiring.
He is survived by his children, Pearline Good of Elkton, Donnie Dovel (Olga) of Fort Defiance, Debra Seal and companion, Steve Dean of Elkton; a special niece raised in the home, Judy Carper of Gaston, South Carolina; siblings, Hilda Plum of Elkton, Hazel McAlister, Phyllis Slye both of Shenandoah, Dorthy Wyant of Elkton, Isaac Dovel (Joanne), Ernest Dovel (Vickie), Robert Dovel (Sue) and Olen Dovel (Frances) all of Elkton; grandchildren, Sandy Bebber (Jim), Christina Dovel, Lisa Adldoost (Mo), Jason Seal (Monica), Tanya Dovel, Jennifer Erdelyi (Janos`); great-grandchildren, Jamie Bebber, Morgan Dove (Jordan) Azure Dovel, Logan Adldoost, Morgan Adldoost, Ryan Seal, Brooke Seal, Julia Erdelyi, Jancsi Erdelyi and Ben Erdelyi and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the home of his daughter, Pearline at any time.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Jim Bebber officiating.
Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Program for Aging Services, 975 S. High St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
