Frances E. "Genie" Brewton Berry, 91, of Jacksonville, FL, and formerly of Savannah, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, after a brief illness at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Berry was the 14th child of Andrew Jackson Brewton and Frances Sikes Brewton. She was born in Evans County, GA, and resided with her daughter in Jacksonville, FL. She had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since December of 1948, a member, teacher and past president of the Marvin ONeil Sunday School Class. She was also in charge of the Wednesday Night Church Suppers, where the profits went to the church. She was an Avid Gardner, and she was known for her Chicken and Dumplings, that she would take when visiting the sick and shut-ins. The United Methodist Women named her "Miss Dumpling", for all of the Chicken and Dumplings that she had made. She belonged to the Nurturing for Community Circle. She was an Emeritus Member of Savannah Chapter # 52, Order of the Eastern Star, and had served as Worthy Matron in 1960. She has been a member of the Chapter, since 1938, and attended Grand Chapter in Macon, GA for many years. She was also a member of the Alee Shrine Temple, Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank G. Berry. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Berry Murphy of Jacksonville, FL; two grand daughters, Carolyn Muraski and Caryn Sawyer; several great grandchildren, all of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Mary Jane Reynolds of Savannah, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6: -8:00 p.m. Monday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Order of the Eastern Star Memorial Service: 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel, conducted by Savannah Chapter # 52, OES. Mrs. Berry will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. to lie in state. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Enoch Hendry, officiating. Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers: David Cason, Charles Lawson, Tommy Wong, James Lynn, Alfred Beebe, and Jack Akins. Honorary Pallbearers: Charles Brewton, Jack Brewton, Raymond Brewton, Alton Deal, Leo Deal, Willie Deal, James Goodman, Roy Goodman and members of the Marvin ONeal Sunday School Class of Trinity United Methodist Church.
