He was born in El Paso, Texas on June 20, 1917, the son of Hugh Thompson and Elsie (Lurkins) Henry.
Tom was reared in El Paso where he graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. He was a distinguished athlete playing tight end for the Austin High School panthers. He played in the first Sun Bowl game. On November 29, 1941, he married Rosemary Golucke of Augusta, Georgia. She survives him and is currently living in the Mattie H. Marshall Center in Americus, GA. Tom joined the Air Force in 1941.
He was trained in Radar and served as the navigator on a B-29. He and his 11 member crew were stationed on Guam and flew 39 missions over Japan. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, he was featured in the book, Bringing the Thunder detailing the missions flown in WWII. He acted as the navigation consultant in the refurbishment of the Flying Fortress B 29 plane called Sentimental Journey. Tom was employed by the El Paso Hotel Supply company as vice-president from 1950-1968. He was employed by the Tom Redditt Sales Agency in 1968 and moved to Phoenix, AZ, in 1975. He was active in his church, Asbury Methodist and Western Hills Methodist in El Paso and Sun Lakes United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Sertoma Club, the Shriners, and the Rotary Club. He was known for very clever limericks creating one for any occasion. He preformed as Master of Ceremonies for numerous events.
He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Stuart Heisler of Thomasville, GA., his children Mary Charlotte Jensen and husband Mike of Westcliffe, CO and Centralia, IL, Peggy Lanneau Ward and husband, Steve of Gainesville, GA and Thomas Craig Henry of Ft. Stockton, TX, his grandchildren, Nichole Lanneau Stone and husband Eric of Brush, CO, Stuart Madsen Jensen of Denver, CO, Michelle Marie Ward of Atlanta, GA, Brian Thomas Jensen and wife Julie of Chicago, IL, Jess Steven Ward and wife Barbi of Cumming, GA, Johnny Ray Henry and Angela San Marino, of Los Angels, CA, his great-grandchildren, Emma Stone, Parker Stone, Cody San Marino and Ida San Marino.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Fred Lurkins Henry and Hugh Henry, his sisters Elsie Lurkins Henry, and Betty Henry Badman.
A service will be held at Sun Lakes Untied Methodist Church in their Memorial Gardens at a later date.
