William Lee Godfrey, Jr., 91, a 2-year resident of Edgewater and previously of St. Leonard, MD, passed away on October 9, 2017. Born on July 13, 1926, in Seat Pleasant, MD, William was the oldest son of six children born to the late Sadie and William Lee Godfrey, Sr.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, William pursued a career as an HVAC senior technician and supervisor for the U.S. General Services Administration, working primarily at GSA's central shop.

He was a kind, generous man who loved his family. Always a true gentleman.

He enjoyed dancing, golfing, boating, fishing, basketball, fast-pitch softball and duckpin bowling. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary S. Godfrey; his three sisters, Norma Pickett, Ardel Kans, and Beverly Godfrey, and his brother Charles Godfrey.

He is survived by his son, Steven Godfrey of Edgewater; one sister, Shirley Torpey of Ocean City, MD; one step-daughter, Evelyn Swenson of WI, long-time companion Veronica Frostbutter of VA, and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to celebrate William's life from 10 am until a funeral service begins at 11 am on Friday, October 13, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road, Edgewater.

Burial will be private.
