Ruth Gillespie, age 93, of Villisca, Iowa passed away Wednesday December 13, 2017 at her new home in Gladstone, Missouri. Ruth was born October 19, 1924 in Centerville, Iowa.

Ruth grew up on her parent's, James and Grace (Fry) Bauman, farm along with her identical twin sister Rae and older brothers Harold and Alfred. After graduating from Centerville High School, Ruth earned her teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa Teachers College. Ruth taught for 3 years in Ft. Madison, Iowa before uniting in marriage with Robert "Bob" Gillespie on August 8, 1949 in Centerville, Iowa. Bob and Ruth farmed near Red Oak until 1957 when they purchased a farm near Villisca. Bob and Ruth had two children, Sherry Lynne and Brent Alan. Following the death of Bob in 2001, Ruth continued to live and manage their farm until a broken ankle forced her to move in May, 2017.

Ruth was an active member of the Villisca United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on many committees. For many years Ruth served as a 4-H Leader for the Villisca Busy Boosters. Ruth took great joy in decorating the Church Bazaars and luncheon tables with her hand-made crafts and flowers she grew on her farm. Ruth enjoyed raising flowers and selling them to local florists and at the Red Oak Farmers Market with her sister Rae. Making crafts and attending craft shows with her twin sister was a hobby she loved - and Bob gracefully endured. Ruth and Rae took turns starting and completing each other's sentences. Now that Ruth has joined Rae in Heaven, God will be able to understand the conversation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Brent, her devoted husband Bob, her brothers, Harold Bauman and Alfred Bauman, and sister Rae Bergstrom. Those left with cherished memories are her daughter Sherry and son-in-law Jim Thompson of Gladstone, MO; grandsons, Trip Thompson and his wife, Megan of Kansas City, MO, Robert Thompson and his wife, Chelsea Woo of Burlingame, CA, and Benjamin Thompson of Gladstone, MO; two great-grandchildren, Frankie and Ryder Thompson of Burlingame, CA; sister-in-law Carolyn Bauman of Centerville, IA; nephew, Roger Bergstrom and his wife Jill of Red Oak, IA, many nieces, nephews and her extended adopted relatives the Thompson Family.

A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Villisca United Methodist Church with visitation and luncheon with the family to follow the service. A private family interment service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Villisca United Methodist Church's Food Bank and The Crisis Fund.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
