Nanele Faye Arnold
March 20, 1924 — Oct. 18, 2017

Nanele Faye Arnold, age 93, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.

Nanele grew up in Sacramento and graduated from Sacramento High School in 1941. In October 1941, she married her high-school sweetheart, Bill, and they were married for 70 years until his death in 2012.

In 1955, Bill purchased the Pontiac dealership, then located at First and F Streets in Davis. Nanele ran the office. Bill was President of the Davis Chamber of Commerce in 1958 and later both their son, Doug, and granddaughter Cary Arnold were elected as presidents of the Davis Chamber of Commerce.

Bill and Nanele later sold the car dealership and Bill started Arnold Real Estate, which later became Coldwell Banker Doug Arnold Real Estate. Nanele also obtained a real estate license and she and Bill managed the Woodland office for the real estate company. Nanele also had her own business as a bookkeeper and tax preparer. She continued to work until she suffered a devastating stroke in May 1997, from which she never fully recovered.

Throughout her life, Nanele was devoted to her family and loved living in the country with her draft horses and sheep. She served on the Yolo County Fair Board and was active in many other civic clubs. The couple enjoyed traveling and began cruising in 1958 with a trip on the Lurline to Hawaii. Many other cruises and trips throughout the World followed, often with numerous other family members. Even after her stroke, Bill and Nanele joined 42 other family members for a cruise to Mexico in 2002 and later a cruise to Alaska. In recent years, she resided quietly with her daughter and son-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Arnold Bair and husband, Steven Bair; and grandchildren Tom Muller (Michelle), Bill Muller (Julie), Bret Bair (Karen), Cary Arnold (Jon Sanchez), Cameron Jenness (Rich) and Will Arnold (Nichole). She is also survived by great-grandchildren Blake, Matthew (Brigget), Megan, Amanda, Brittani, Molly, Charles and Katie Muller; Marlon and Vivian Bair; Mark (Jennifer) and Spencer Ling; Logan Sanchez, Jordan, Carson and Noah Murray; Paige Jenness; and Sonya and William Douglas Arnold Jr.; as well as step-grandchildren Nick Jenness, Cassie Murray and Mauricio Moseley. Nanele has two great-great-grandchildren, Beckett and Willow Ling, with another great-great-grandchild due in April. Nanele was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Douglas Arnold, and her son, Bill Douglas Arnold Jr.

A family burial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Davis Cemetery, where Nanele will be laid to rest between her beloved husband and their son in the family plot. Those who wish to contact the family may do so at [email protected]
