Bud Houchin Dies at Red Oak Home
Following An Illness of Several Months Death Takes Old Resident and Well-Known Contractor.
FUNERAL THURSDAY, MAY 18
The death of Bud Houchin, 72, occurred at his home, 105 Hammond-st., Monday, May 15, at 6:06 p.m., death being due to cerebral hemorrhage following illness of several months.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 18, from the Perryman chapel at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Chas. A. Speagh of the Presbyterian church officiating. Pallbearers will be C.R. Newman, L.H. Eggers, Mood Redmon, Sherman Rea, Fred Carlson and Dr. R.D. Morris. Music will be by Mrs. R.D. Morris, soloist, and a duet by Mrs. Ralph Spencer and Mrs. Ed Rose, with Miss Louise Artz at the organ. Flowers will be in charge of Mrs. C.R. Newman, (Mrs. Sherman, Dora Burg. Burial will be in Ever-Rea, Mrs. L.H. Eggers and Miss Dora Berg.-sic)
Mr. Houchin was born in Warren county, Ill., March 6, 1872, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Houchin. He came to Iowa as a boy and was married March 7, 1897, to Katie Allen in Red Oak, who survives her husband, together with a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Gress, Gary, Ind., and a son, Eugene, in Atlantic City, N.J., and three grandchildren. Sisters and brothers also survive as follows: Mrs. Hattie Lane, Pismo Beach, Cal.; James Houchin, Corning; Mrs. Vi Lemley, Pismo Beach, Cal., and Fred Houchin, Los Angeles, Cal.
Mr. Houchin had spent nearly his entire life in Red Oak and was a carpenter and contractor during his active years. Mr. and Mrs. Houchin had resided in the same house ever since their marriage. He belonged to the Masonic lodge and was a member of the Low Twelve club. He had also served for ten years on the volunteer fire department.
