Frances Melissa Payne Shewmake passed away Friday, October 20th, 2017.

Mrs. Shewmake was born Nov. 17, 1921 in Royse City, the youngest of 10 children. She graduated from Rockwall High School. Frances made a wonderful home for her husband, children and grandchildren being active in their school activities, teaching Sunday School, and providing warm and wonderful holiday dinners prepared solely by her well into her 80's. She was a member of the "the greatest generation" and contributed to the war effort in the early 40's by building airplanes at Consolidated in Fort Worth which is now Lockheed Martin. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Granbury before moving to Dallas.

Mrs. Shewmake was preceded in death by her parents, James David and Sarah Patton Payne of Rockwall and her husband of 64 years, Joseph William Shewmake; sisters, Mae McCreary, Dollie Lancaster, Pearl McCreary, Mable Youngblood, Mildred Rodgers, Lois Morgan; brothers, JD Payne, Jr., Elmer Payne, and James Weldon Payne.

Survivors: Daughter, Glenda Hill and husband, Pete, of Dallas; son, Dr. Roger Shewmake and his wife, Rita of Haslet; grandchildren, Cynthia Looney and her husband, Jay of Dallas, Clay Hill and wife, Dawn of Dallas, Sara Henry and husband, Todd of Dallas and David Shewmake of Archer City; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her family.
