H. Doyle Ambrose, 85, died at his home on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000.

He retired as a tunnel mechanic in 1977 from NASA. Doyle was a member of Providence Baptist Church and taught the Men's Bible Class for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sue Ambrose; two daughters, Barbara Dale Ambrose and Barbara Joan Lindsey; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ambrose; five grandchildren, Rebecca Slate, and her husband, Jeffrey, Teresa L. Altemus, and her husband, John, Patricia Lindsey, Andy Lindsey and Shannen Jenkins, and her husband, Randy; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, conducted by the Revs. Timothy B. Kirby Sr. and William J. Corey Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will recieve friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

In his memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department.
