Rotated to the States in 1945, Maurice was honorably discharged from the army in August, 1945.

Following, Maurice attended automotive school in Chicago and Kansas City. He met future wife Anna Caroline Amonett at a dance in Richmond, Indiana in 1946 or early 1947. They were married in Salt Lake City September 25, 1947 and honeymooned in Yellowstone National Park.
