F. KNIGHT ALEXANDER Jr., M.D.
ALEXANDER, F. Knight Jr., MD Of Marblehead and Captiva, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on February 14, 2013 at North Shore Medical Center. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1935, the son of Fay K. Alexander MD and Leone Furtney Alexander. Dr. Alexander graduated from Germantown Friends School where he was president of the student council. He received his BA from Princeton University, followed by an MBA in Finance from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After working in business, he then earned his MD at Hahnemann Medical College (now Drexel) in 1964. He continued his medical training at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA and Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, MA where he worked in academic medicine as a radiologist. Retaining a Tufts appointment, as clinical instructor in Radiology, he joined a group practice at Salem Hospital (now North Shore Medical Center), where he became Associate Chief of Radiology. During the Vietnam War, he was a Captain with 102nd Massachusetts Air National Guard Tactical Hospital. Outside of medicine, he loved to read, attend Handel and Hayden Society Concerts, sing with the Festival Chorus at Old North Church, play golf and paddle tennis, and in younger years ski. He and his wife, Marge, spent every summer racing their one design lightning and later cruising and racing their sloop along the New England Coast. He was a member of Eastern Yacht Club, Tedesco Country Club, Romeos, and a retirement doctors group. Always interested in conservation, he contributed to many organizations here and in Florida. He was predeceased by a son, Fay Knight Alexander, III. He leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Marjorie Adams Alexander and children Geoffrey and his wife Lindsay, Cynthia, Elizabeth and five grandchildren, Mariah, Will, Fred, Curtis, and Garrett. He also leaves a brother William and his wife Julie plus a nephew, cousins, and friends. Following private services, internment will be at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Handel and Hayden Society, 300 Massachusetts Ave. Boston, MA 02115, Mass Audubon, 208 S Great Rd. Lincoln, MA 01773 or The Trustees of Reservations Advancement Office, 572 Essex St. Beverly, MA 01915. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, MARBLEHEAD.
